On 14th January 2020 Microsoft will no longer provide support or security updates for PCs running on Windows 7.
Windows 7 will still operate but you will stop receiving security and feature updates that help protect your PC. Unsupported/outdated operating systems are often targeted by cyber attacks specifically because they no longer receive software updates, meaning your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses, which is not something you want to risk in a business. Therefore, with active support for Windows 7 coming to an end, it is time to replace or upgrade your machine.
Microsoft “strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.”
To take advantage of the latest hardware capabilities, we recommend upgrading to Windows 10 if your PC is less than 3 years old. Whilst upgrading is an option, if your PC is older than 3 years, we highly recommend replacing your machine.
By replacing your PC, we believe that it will benefit your business by providing efficiency, increased productivity and is better value for money. The cost of maintaining hardware and outdated software begins to outweigh the benefits of not replacing it, and when it comes to repairs and upgrading, these expenses can easily exceed the cost of a new machine. Older machines are less likely to support newer operating systems, and if they do, it’s often at the expense of reduced performance. Therefore, it makes sense to transition to a new computer with Windows 10 installed.
